Giovanni Paolo Chilelli is here!

He came on February 22, at 8:50am, weighing 7 lbs 15 oz, and 19 inches long.

He is beautiful and I fall more & more in love with him everyday!

It's been a busy month of getting adjusted to all things parenting, & now my little guy is already 1 month old!

At 1 month, Giovanni loves:

for all of july, i was the luckiest aunt. danalisa (my sister) and owen (my nephew and godson) lived with us, and it was so much fun to see the little guy day in, day out. things i learned this summer-- owen likes: shea, the playground, the pool, his mommy, peek-a-boo, hearing his aunt say "saucy", & cereal with OJ on top. what a guy.

For their first dance, Julie & Rich swayed to the music they wrote and recorded together on their 8-track recorder. It was a beautiful, clear night at the Lumbar Baron Inn in Denver, and the soft lights illuminating the reception space made for a magical garden feel. Julie & Rich, Ryan and I were so honored to be part of your wedding day, and we can't stop talking about how gorgeous everything was!! Hope you're loving married life, and say hi to Ester for us! :)

Last Saturday, over Starbucks, I met with Julie, a bride who's wedding I'm doing tomorrow. She is SO fun & sweet! When I met her, I put out my hand to shake hers, but instead she opened up hers to hug me- aw!

Turns out, she also has a Goldendoodle-- well, of COURSE, we spent a significant amount of time chatting about our dogs, her Ester and my Shea. Then, yesterday, Shea and I received a fun package in the mail from Julie, including this:

tara makes a joke and kris smiles warmly at her-- he is in awe of how sweet and funny she is. and she is indeed those things. i had so much fun running around boulder with you two. thanks for sitting in fields for me and taking me to all the boulder photo shoot hot spots (way to be on the look out, tara!) can't wait for water world, and your wedding in august!!

"we want to capture his little fingers and toes," james' mom told me as she got little jimmy ready for his first couple of shots. it is obvious that jimmy is covered in love by his family-- the way they laugh at his many funny facial expressions or stare affectionately at him. his adorable red hair and big blue eyes made for some adorable shots.

towards the end of the shoot, little jimmy's cousin, emily, joined us for some shots. check out those amazing blond ringlets-- i am still in awe of them! emily's sweet baby feet carried her all around the backyard-- quite the runner!

the fall smell was in the air that october night-- crisp leaves with a faint smell of a fire-- even in downtown denver. we stood on the street waiting, teeth chattering a bit in the cool air. when the pick-up truck rounded the corner, i felt my heart skip a beat: she was here!!! the breeder stepped out of the car, said a quick hello, then turned around into the backseat, and pulled out what i was waiting for: a teeny, tiny, caramel-colored ball of wavy fur. "here she is!" the breeder expclaimed, and as i took shea from her arms, a pink tongue brushed my cheek. my first shea kiss-- i was in LOVE!! my heart was smitten-- and

as those chocolate brown, soulful eyes looked up at me, i knew i would no longer go an hour without thinking about her. sometimes i won't be with her, but i'll bust out laughing thinking about the way she stares at me with her tongue out, or paws at my face in the mornings to say "hello". and even as she sits here shoving her slobbery ball on my laptop in hopes of me tossing it across the room, i laugh, and think about how much i love my now very BIG ball of caramel-colored, wavy fur.

don't get me wrong... memorial day is my favorite kick-off-the-summer holiday-- and anyone who knows me knows that i LIVE for summer!! but, because memorial day is monday, i won't get my lens until tuesday!! so sad! maybe i'll have to do another rental this weekend...

we are still busy working on our house- i can't wait to post pictures to show everyone how fun it has been designing this place. since the kitchen and bath needed to be redone, as well as a number of things throughout the rest of the house, ryan and i got to pick everything! slate floors, check. stainless appliances, check. awesome dark bamboo floors, check. cute new laundry room, check! i have been in awe at how much ryan knows about construction and design. i'll say it yet again: he's amazing.

so this isn't an official business card or anything-- i've just been playing around on photoshop. i found this business card company that prints on flexible plastic-- very cool. they have templates available, and i added the print. i like the idea of a cursive "abriana chilelli" above "photography". i just wanted to see everything in print! this is by no means a great attempt- i just love documenting this journey on my blog. :) thanks http://www.plasmadesign.co.uk/!

So I'm still waiting for my 85mm f/1.8 to come. I took last weekend's pictures with a rented lens because I just couldn't wait anymore-- and I'm feeling that eagerness again!! Pretty much, I stalk the UPS tracking website. I can't wait to get out there- start snapping away at life all around me.

For now, I've begun researching branding and marketing materials (brochures.. business cards, especially). I've been doing a lot of research on Denver-based designers- as a new Denver homeowner, I love supporting that local economy! I'm looking for a really cool, modern, and fresh business card- something unconventional for sure.

All my research on Jasmine Star & Becker's blogs have led me to believe that marketing and branding are so vital in the start of a photography business. Plus, now that I have my camera and first lens, I have to research something-- if you don't know anything about me-- trust me, I love researching and learning! My brother and I have a joke that we are a little obsessed with Google searches & research to learn, learn, learn.

So, search away Google: denver logo design branding = 213,000 hits. I'll be busy :)

yesterday, ryan and i walked outside at the end of the day as the sun was setting. the light was GORGEOUS!! i noticed how awesome it was making the flowers in some bushes-- they looked so softly illuminated. yum. it was one of those defining moments though-- you know you're a photographer when you stop in your head and say "this is awesome light for a session". i immediately told ryan and he was happy for me- i'm getting there!

what i absolutely love about the photography industry is how helpful other photographers are. i've been really inspired by what i've learned from others at opensourcephoto.net, photographer resources tabs on pro's websites and blogs, and getting e-mails with helpful advice from some of my favorite blogs to stalk (thanks drew b and crystal goss!!) :) i hope one day i know enough to help others pursue their own dreams and careers!

nervous excitement

i remember being in 6th or 7th grade and discovering my dad's old film camera from a photography class he took in college. it was in a tan leather case in the basement, a fine layer of dust covering the top. as i snapped open the case, i remember that excitement-- a real camera. this was no point-and-shoot, no winding the film after every shot-- it was a real photographer's camera. i studied it by myself in the basement, trying to figure out what all the buttons and dials meant. even though my 12 year old brain didn't know much- i knew how excited it made me!

that summer we went to the new york renaissance festival and i brought it along. i took pictures of everything- the women in their colorful medieval dresses, jousting competitions, braided hair, turkey legs-- the regular make-up of the festival that my parents loved. i remember driving home that night taking a picture of some skyscraper, trying to capture it perfectly. it was that feeling again-- capturing the beauty i saw, creating meaningful, beautiful moments out of the world passing me by.

i got that same feeling when my amazing, then husband-to-be bought me my first DSLR on our wedding day. "i can't wait for you to take pictures of our family for the rest of our lives," the card read. what a guy. he knew that i had this creativity inside of me-- it had bubbled out my whole life-- in art class in school, doing crafts with my artist mom, and then drawing and painting courses in college. i have always had this need to express myself creatively, but photography was about capturing the world around me.

looking at a picture that can capture an ordinary moment and turn it into a magical, monumental memory (how's that for alliteration?!) gets me every time.

when ryan said, "why don't you take some savings and buy a nicer camera?", i fell in love with him all over again! we all need people who support our dreams- and i'm married to my person. he understands this need to be creative- to capture moments as they come.

so, i'm on the hunt for that first camera for the start of my new love- my new career!!
